Sole Connection: Footwear Design

How can I design a line of boots that offer protective versatility, with different types of guarding not just on the outsole, but also on the upper, giving you the freedom to stay protected in different scenarios?

Rubber Duck 3D Prototype

For the construction of this Rubber Duck prototype, I first began with modeling the midsole on Rhino 7, and then printing on the UltiMaker with its TPU filament. During the few day time span that this was printing, I casted the outsole, which was based off on a Vibram sample outsole that I had acquired. In this project, I wanted to brand my collection in a collaboration with Vibram. I then attatched the midsole and outsole together with various shoe glues and the use of clamps and began to cut the patterns for my upper. After stitching and glueing the upper to the soles, I began to pour a silicone rubber on the shoe to resemble and waterproof, rubber guard around your foot. Although this prototype does not perfectly resemble the silhouette in my sketch, I learned quite a bit about the trials and tribulations of shoe construction and how much effort goes into each step.
