Polaroid Redesign Project

How might we reimagine instant photography?

Photography has evolved dramatically since 1816 but the magic of a moment captured stays constant. The first Polaroid camera, called the Model 95, and its associated film went on sale in 1948 at a department store in Boston.

Consider the role of the instant camera today and why it is making a comeback. Who is using these cameras and for what purpose.

How can I design the Polaroid to make for a more ergonomic and intuitive operating experience while keeping the integrity of the brand and a refreshing deign?

Various ideation sketches in the early design process, exploring the boundaries and limitations of form and function for an Instant Camera, keeping the product technology and inside architecture in mind.

From my various sketches, I boiled it down to my top 5 favorite forms, and then expanded greater onto their architectures. I then chose my best and proceeded to model them in 3D.

Once I was set on my form, I modeled my product in order of Grey Foam, Yellow Foam (spray-painted blue), and then finally a 3D Printed model, each time focusing on improving its ergonomics.

During my rendering process, I kept the brand identity intact by using similar color blocking and material techniques, while bringing personality and uniqueness to the design with the signature polaroid rainbow color touches, with this one showing a blue bottom plate. Other versions of this product would include the remaining Polaroid rainbow colors.
